Module 1: General Explanation of AI & How Public Sector Employees Can Use AI (15 minutes)

  • A basic overview of what AI is.
  • Practical and relevant use cases for AI in the public sector, such as automating workflows, analyzing data, summarizing documents, and communicating with constituents by using chatbots.
  • Examples of common AI tools that government employees may use in their employment and for what purposes those tools are appropriate.
  • Emphasis that employees must only use AI tools as authorized by their employers.

Module 2: Risks and Limitations of AI (20 minutes)

  • Recognition that AI has limitations and that its use may involve some risk. Some tools and use cases are riskier than others.
    • AI is not always accurate and may reflect outdated information.
    • The value of AI depends in part on the quality of its training data.
    • Sometimes AI lacks judgment or contextual awareness relative to human capability.
